The modern way to straighter teeth
When you were a teenager, did you have slightly wonky teeth and really wanted to get them straightened? Did you go to the dentist, only to be told that it couldn’t be done on the NHS, because your problems weren’t severe enough to fit the medical requirements for orthodontic treatment?
If this happened to you, you were not the only one. With limited funding available, the NHS can only treat those who have a badly affected bite, and many patients do not fit the criteria for free treatment.
However, these days it has become much cheaper to get less problematic teeth straightened, and that means that many patients are opting to pay for straighter teeth themselves. Clear braces are proving to be one of the most popular orthodontic systems.
Here at the Parbold Dental Practice in Ormskirk, we use Invisalign clear braces. This is one of the best known and most popular systems in the world, and for good reason.
Invisalign clear braces are totally different from traditional metal track-track bracket and wire systems. They do not require anything to be permanently fixed to your teeth for months, maybe years. They do not create sore patches inside your mouth, or cause embarrassment when the first thing people notice about you is your mouth full of metal.
Clear braces offer a discreet system of straightening teeth that is almost unnoticeable. Here’s what happens:
You come in for a consultation, during which we take an impression of your teeth. We use it to make up a computer model of how your teeth will move to their desired position and how your new smile will look. That information is then sent to the Invisalign laboratory, which manufactures a series of custom-fit trays. Each tray matches one step along the route that your teeth will travel to reach the perfect smile for you. The trays are made of rigid thermoplastic resin, which is transparent and so thin that people have to be right next to you to even notice it is there.
You wear each tray for about two weeks. The pressure from it gently nudges your teeth along to the next position. When the pressure wears off, it’s time for the next tray.
