Tooth whitening, an easy way to transform smiles
If you are not happy with your teeth and want a quick and easy way to make them look better, but don’t want to fiddle around with altering their structure or position, then tooth whitening is the cosmetic dentistry treatment for you.
Here at Parbold Dental Practice in Ormskirk, tooth whitening is our most popular cosmetic dentistry treatment precisely because it is so easy to have done. We offer 2 ways to get your teeth whitened.
They both work in the same way, using gels containing hydrogen peroxide to gently lift out the traces of old food, drinks and tobacco that have become lodged in the pores of your enamel. Yes, like your skin, your tooth enamel has pores. Hydrogen peroxide has been used safely for a couple of centuries to clean and disinfect and whiten. It is very tried and trusted, but even so, the concentrations of it in whitening gel vary according to where you buy it and who is using it.
So, the gel you buy over-the-counter is very weak and takes forever to work, if it does at all. The gel we sell for use at home is stronger and the one we use ourselves on you in the clinic here at Parbold Dental Practice is the strongest of all and acts very quickly.
Power whitening
It takes about an hour to go several shades lighter with whitening in the clinic. We protect your lips and gums with a plastic barrier before painting your teeth with whitening gel. The gel is activated by a UV lamp. Once we have arrived at the shade you want, we clean you up and off you go. Easy, and very handy for important occasions such as weddings, where there will be lots of photographs.
At-home whitening
We take impressions of your teeth to make you your precisely-fitting gel trays. At home, you fill them with our take-home gel and wear them every day for a short period. Whitening to your desired shade takes 2-3 weeks. The big plus with this method is that you can buy more gel and give yourself a whitening top-up whenever you need it.
